Mahsa Vahdat – voice and daf

Somewhat ironically, George Bush inspired Lullabies from the Axis of Evil (2004), an album that aimed to show the world that the inhabitants of this ‘Axis of Evil’ were people too. Singer Mahsa Vahdat represented Iran, and since then she’s freed herself from shackles that hold back female artists, fighting for artistic freedom. Her songs are embedded in old traditions, and draw from both ancient Persian and contemporary Iranian poetry.
