‘I have stretched ropes from bell-tower to bell-tower; garlands from window to window; chains of gold from star to star, and I dance.’ You can believe Rimbaud: Wonderfeel 2024 will be a party! Britten’s setting of Rimbaud’s Illuminations is pure poetry, with soprano Katharine Dain as guest soloist with the Wonderfeel Festival Orchestra. Then the stage is taken by Shannon Lee for Schubert’s Rondo, and then we’ll hear a swinging work by Jessie Montgomery: Strum is based on the sound of American folk and the spirit of dance and movement. At a certain point, fleeting nostalgia turns into extatic joy, the perfect atmosphere to celebrate 10 years of Wonderfeel.
